Cecilia Pompili | Associate Professor and Thoracic Surgeon focusing on Patient Reported Outcomes Research; University of Hull
Cecilia is a qualified Academic Thoracic Surgeon with a PhD from the University of Leeds on The Role of Patients Reported Outcomes (PROMS) in Early-Stage NSCLC radical treatments. Dr Pompili has also obtained a Master in Robotic Thoracic Surgery in 2017 in Pisa, Italy under the supervision of Prof Melfi. She is currently Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Leeds. Her clinical research focuses on two areas: a) patient-centred and personalised care for thoracic malignancies and b) evidence-based practice in lung cancer surgery with particular interest in risk-stratification and postoperative morbidities. Dr Pompili has advocated for the inclusion of women and racial, sexual, and gender minorities in surgical oncology and clinical trials, and have led efforts within European surgical societies to support women and other underrepresented communities in entering the thoracic field (ESTS/EACTS gender bias project lead). She is co-chairing of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce leading a Global DEI assessment in the Thoracic Community.

Matthias Siepe | Chairman and Professor, Department of Cardiac Surgery, Cardiovascular Center, Inselspital, Freiburgstrasse 18, 3010 Bern, Switzerland
Matthias Siepe (born 1974) studied medicine in Freiburg, Germany. His cardiovascular surgical training and work as a consultant was supervised by his mentor, Friedhelm Beyersdorf, in Freiburg. Since February 2022, he has been Chairman of the Cardiac Surgery Department in Bern, Switzerland. Before serving as Editor-in-Chief of EJCTS (since 2020), he was actively involved in various academic and publishing initiatives of EACTS. Matthias is also currently the EACTS Editor in Chief for the EACTS council.
Friedhelm Beyersdorf | Professor at the Medical Faculty of the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg
Dr. Beyersdorf was born in Bochum, Germany and is a graduate from the Wolfgang-Goethe-University in Frankfurt/M. with clinical clerkship at Johns-Hopkins in Baltimore and Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. His residency was at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt and University of California Los Angeles. From 1994 – 2022 he was Professor and Chairman of the Dept. of Cardiovascular Surgery in Freiburg, Germany. Dr. Beyersdorf is also a past-President of the EACTS (2021 – 2022) as well as a former Editor in Chief (2010-2020).
