Enter the MMCTS Residents’ Tutorial Competition!
Applications are open for 2025
The European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS) and the Thoracic Surgery Residents Association (TSRA) are pleased to present the annual MMCTS Residents’ Tutorial Competition. The Competition recognises the best core skills video tutorial and rewards technical quality, surgical skills, and educational clarity.
The aim of this EACTS/TSRA initiative is to encourage residents to actively participate in the enduring shared mission of EACTS and the TSRA to advance education in the field of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular interventions. Competition entries will also be eligible for publication in MMCTS, offering residents who take part an incredible opportunity to be featured in the premier online video manual of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery tutorials!
The Competition
This year’s tutorial topic should focus on core skills relevant to the basic education of residents with potential topics including:
Cardiac
- IABP insertion / Impella insertion, management
- Organ transplantation (heart and lung)
- Organ procurement (heart and lung), especially in the era of DCD / perfusion devices.
- TEVAR, especially with branched technology
Thoracic
- Lung decortication
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy
- Tracheal repair
- Esophageal stent
- Uncomplicated full or partial fundoplications

The competition closes on 1st May 2025, so make sure to submit your entry soon for the chance to win the Marko Turina Award for Best MMCTS Residents’ Tutorial.
Prizes and Recognition
The winners of the competition will be informed on 1st September 2025 and prizes will be awarded at the 39th EACTS Annual Meeting in October 2025.
The lead author of the winning submission will receive complimentary admission to this year’s EACTS Annual Meeting, and an invitation to attend the EACTS Editors’ Dinner where they will be presented with an Award Certificate and announced as the winner. Additional authors of the winning submission will receive Award Certificates.
