About EJCTS
The European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EJCTS) publishes original scientific reports that document significant clinical and experimental advances in the fields of cardiac, congenital, vascular and thoracic surgery. EJCTS is an international leading journal in cardiothoracic surgery and accepts submissions from all regions. By sharing valuable and cutting-edge research and clinical insights from around the world, we support our community in achieving better outcomes for patients.
EJCTS is part of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) family of publications, including the Interdisciplinary CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery (ICVTS) journal; the Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (MMCTS) an online video-based textbook; and the EACTS podcast, A Cut Above.

About the role
The EiC is overall responsible for the peer review process, editorial board and strategy development of the journal. Supported by a team of Associate Editors and the EACTS Editorial Office, they will deliver a diverse output of high-quality original scientific reports documenting progress in cardiac and thoracic surgery.
Beyond original scientific content, the EiC oversees the publication of clinical recommendation manuscripts such as guidelines and is responsible for professional communication from EACTS. The EiC represents the EACTS publications portfolio on the EACTS Council, with overall responsibility for strategy and budget for the portfolio with support from the EACTS Editorial Director responsible for the editorial office operations. This role requires a time commitment of one full day’s work per week (or equivalent) on average.
About the person
The ideal candidate holds a strong publishing record and significant editorial experience as an EiC or Associate Editor of a reputable scientific journal. They are a visionary leader and driving force for excellence and innovation. With a broad, international network of cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiologists, they are well-placed to attract high-quality submissions, and recruit expert reviewers and editorial board members.
Their commitment to advancing the field of cardiothoracic surgery, coupled with a willingness to dedicate the necessary time and effort, is crucial to the impact and success of the journal. A vision to the future of scientific publishing, and what role the EACTS publications portfolio will play in our field, is also crucial.
