In 2000, Dr Marco Solinas was appointed to a Consultant position in Cardiac Surgery at “Ospedale del Cuore, Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio”, Massa, Italy. During this period, Marco has been responsible for all aspects of modern Cardiac Surgery with a specific interest in minimally invasive techniques, including training and proctoring in Italy and Europe. During the absence of the Head of Department, Marco has been responsible for the running of the Unit. Marco is also involved in dealing with inter-departmental relations with particular attention to management skills and the negotiation and management of conflicts. In the above role, Marco attended the course of the Italian Society for Cardiac Surgery on the subject “The Responsibility of the New Corporate Management and the elements necessary for the management of the Department” Bologna, 27-28 April 2001. Marco has coordinated work groups for the publication of scientific articles. Furthermore, Marco has been instrumental in the development and running of the hospital database and digital medical records. In July 2010, Marco was appointed as a Consultant in Cardiac Surgery at Imperial College University/Imperial College trust, Hammersmith, London to lead a specific project to develop minimally invasive mitral and aortic surgery. In May 2014, Marco was appointed to a substitute position as Director of Adult Cardiac Surgery Unit “Ospedale del Cuore, Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio”, Massa, Italy. From January 2015-present, he is the Director of Adult Cardiac Surgery Unit “Ospedale del Cuore, Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio”, Massa, Italy. Marco is also the Co-director of the II level Master Innovation in cardiac surgery: advances in minimally invasive therapeutics-Institute of Life Sciences of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna – Fondazione G. Monasterio Regione Toscana-CNR- II and III Edition.
