Dr. Kay-Hyun Park graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1987 and underwent thoracic and cardiovascular surgery resident training in the same university hospital till 1992. After serving the Korean Army for 3 years, he started his professional career at Samsung Medical Center in 1995 as a staff cardiovascular surgeon. In 2002, he stayed at Baylor College of Medicine of Houston, Texas for 1 year and studied aortic surgery with the mentoring by Professor Joseph Coselli. After working in Samsung Medical Center for 10 and half years, he moved to Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) in 2005 as the director of cardiovascular surgery. He got tenured professor position in the Seoul National University College of Medicine in 2011. From 2013 to June 2016, he served as the Chairman of the Department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in SNUBH. Although his professional interest covers all aspects of cardiac surgery, the major academic and research interest focused on the aortic surgery since late 1990’s. He has published more than 70 articles in English journals and has been holding a biannual international meeting called “Bundang Aortic Surgery Symposium” since 2008 when he performed a live surgery for thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair. In 2019, he was appointed as a council member and the chief of the Aortic Domain of the Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS).
