Theo de By

Theo de By has a combinatation of two roles, Director of the Euromacs Registry at the EACTS and project manager of the EACTS QUIP programme.

From 2010 to 2018, he was the Director at the Foundation of European Tissue Banks, setting up and implementing different projects to stimulate tissue donation, transplantation and quality management.

Theo started his career at Eurotransplant International Foundation in 1974, where he was responsible for the setting up and implementation of international projects. He was a coordinator, allocating donor organs to transplant recipients on the waiting list, he initiated organ transplantation in several countries.

At the National Board of Hospitals in the Netherlands, starting in 1981, he represented health care employers in collective labour contracting, the health care pension fund and the branch’s health care insurance institution.

From 1988 to 2010 he was managing director of BIS Foundation, an international tissue transplant establishment involved in donation, processing and distribution of tissue grafts.

Theo studied Hospital Sciences (BA) and Executive Business Management (MBA). He did several courses in pathology, immunology and quality management. During his career he published articles about the costs of kidney transplantation and dialysis, tissue banking, quality management and mechanical circulatory support.
