Melanie Freas
Melanie Freas holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Drexel University, a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and is a board certified acute care nurse practitioner.
Over the past 30 years Melanie has practiced as an advanced practice nurse in a variety of critical care settings throughout her nursing career including Surgical Intensive Care, Interventional and Medical Cardiology, as well as Electrophysiology. Melanie is currently an acute care nurse practitioner for The Penn Aortic Center, Cardiac Surgery at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to her surgical consultative service, Melanie is the Clinical Program director for the Bicuspid Aortic Valve Center that serves over 700 patients with complex aortic diseases. It is the largest independently run nurse practitioner practice in the region. This nurse practitioner run aortic valve repair surveillance clinic is the first of its kind, and the only one in the United States when it started in 2019.
