Malakh Shrestha
Malakh Shrestha is currently Professor of Surgery and director of Aortic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota. He is also the director of the Mayo Clinic Aortic Center.
He has been involved and led numerous multi-center, multi- country clinical trials. He has also performed numerous ‘first in man’ implantations of various medical innovations like the Sorin/ Corcym ‘Perceval sutureless valve’ in 2007, the Edwards Intuity rapid deployment valve in 2010.
He is a co-developer of the ‘Thoraflex Hybrid Frozen Elephant Trunk graft’ and performed the first post CE cetification implant in 2012.
He was also part of the surgical advisory team of the development of the Edwards Konect prefabricated Tissue Valved conduit.
He completed his cardiac surgery residency and obtained his PhD in Cardiac Surgery from Hannover Medical School, Germany. Before moving to the Mayo Clinic, he was Professor of cardiac surgery and Vice Chairman of the Department of Cardio-thoracic, Transplantation and Vascular Surgery at the Hanover Medical School, Germany.
His main interests are in the field of aortic surgery, especially, valve sparing aortic root replacements and total aortic arch replacement with frozen elephant trunk hybrid grafts as well as new iinovations in the field of Cardiac Surgery.
He had published more than 130 peer reviewed original publications in the international Journals. He has given over 170 invited presentations around the world, including the ‘ 2017 William Glenn memorial Lecture’ at the Yale University, ‘ 2017 David Chan Visiting Professor lecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the ‘Inaugural Barratt Boyles Visiting professor lecture at the Auckland Hospital in 2024’ in New Zealand and the “ 2024 Hilgenberg Lecture’ at the Mass general Hospital, Harvard University, Boston.
He is a member of the EACTS, AATS, STS, ISMICS, GCS, GSCTVS and NMA.
