Dr Van Laake is associate professor and medical lead of the mechanical circulatory support program at the University Medical Center Utrecht, Department of Cardiology. She obtained the Postgraduate Certificate of Advanced Studies in Heart Failure at the University of Zurich & Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology, and further specialized into advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation. She was the lead cardiologist in the introduction of DCD heart transplantation and total artificial heart (Aeson/CARMAT) programs in the Netherlands. Furthermore, Dr. Van Laake leads a translational research program dedicated to find innovative ways to prevent and treat advanced heart failure using, amongst others, stem cell-based and ex vivo human heart models. She is active within the ISHLT as well as ESC and HFA Committees, including the Translational Research Committee and Advanced Heart Failure Committee of the HFA, and the WG Myocardial Function of the ESC.
