Laurent M. Haegeli studied medicine at the Universities of Basel and Paris. In 1997 he obtained his MD in Basel. From 1998 to 2004 he did his residency in internal medicine and cardiology at the Kantonsspital Aarau and at the University Hospitals Zurich, Basel and Freiburg / Bad Krozingen. After board certification he worked from 2005 to 2008 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, Canada, where he did a clinical fellowship and research in invasive electrophysiology and interventional cardiology, with a focus on device implantation and catheter ablation. Since his return to Switzerland he has a staff position in cardiology at the University Hospital Zurich where he established the atrial fibrillation ablation program. In 2012 he received associate professor degree for his scientific work in the field of interventional therapy of rhythm disorders. He is a member of the Atrial Fibrillation Competence Network / European Heart Rhythm Association Consensus Conference, a group of experts aiming to improve the management of patients with atrial fibrillation. Since 2013 he is the director of the electrophysiology programme.
