Johannes Holfeld

Johannes Holfeld is a full Professor of Translational Cardiac Surgery at Medical University of Innsbruck in Austria. He works as a Senior Consultant in Cardiac Surgery at the University Clinic in Innsbruck and at the German Heart Center Munich. His surgical expertise ranges from minimally-invasive cardiac surgery and valve reconstruction to all types of aortic and aortic arch surgery.

Prof. Holfeld is dedicated to translational research with a particular focus on myocardial regeneration and the role of the innate immune system in cardiovascular disease. His pre-clinical research led to successful Phase II and III trials in heart failure patients, for which he acts as a PI. He is the head of the cardiosurgical research lab at Medical University of Innsbruck, where he trained many physician scientists and established an international scholarship program with a US collaboration partner. Prof. Holfeld holds numerous patents and is a co-founder of the University spin-off company Heart Regeneration Technologies GmbH, which develops and markets direct cardiac shockwave therapy.
