Joanna Chikwe

Dr. Joanna Chikwe is Chair of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where her primary clinical focus is robotic mitral valve repair. In addition to serving as Editor-in-Chief of The Annals, Dr. Chikwe serves as Chair of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Asymptomatic Degenerative Mitral Repair Writing Group, Vice-Chair of the American Heart Association Valvular Heart Disease Performance Measures Steering Group, and Vice-Chair of the American Heart Association Methodological Standards in Randomized Trials in Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Chikwe’s research focuses on clinical trials (she is Co-PI of the NHLBI-sponsored CTSN pivotal randomized trial of surgical versus transcatheter mitral repair “PRIMARY”) and comparative outcomes in cardiac surgery and cardiology, with publications in NEJM, JAMA, The Lancet, and JACC.
