Joachim Photiadis graduated in 1992 as a medical doctor at the Heidelberg Medical University as PhD. After finishing his residency in cardiac surgery 1999 after German Heart Center Berlin, he trained in congenital heart repairs at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Children’s Hospital of Philadephia and Royal Brompton Hospital London, followed by consultant position at the German Paediatric Heart Center Sankt Augustin, Germany from 2002 until 2012. From 2012 til now, he is Director of the Clinic of Congenital heart surgery / Paediatric Heart Surgery at the German Heart Center Berlin and since 2016 Professor of Congenital heart surgery / Paediatric Heart Surgery at Charité University Berlin.
His areas of interest are all kind of valve repairs, minimal invasive repairs in infants and children, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, complex TGA/DORV repairs (Truncal turn, Double Switch), VAD support and Transplant.
