Friedrich Kaufmann

Friedrich Kaufmann is a bioengineer and senior VAD coordinator at the German Heart Center Berlin (DHZB). Since 1990 he has worked in the VAD department and been responsible for more than 2500 patients who were supported by more than a dozen different VAD systems. Today about 400 ongoing patients are managed by the VAD department.
Kaufmann’s specialty is not only to recognize and correctly diagnose complications in VAD patients, in order to discuss the appropriate strategy for mitigation, but also to research device related root causes which induce such complications. Developing new diagnostic tools to fill the gap between the available technology and future needs is his ambition.
