Espeed Khoshbin
Mr Espeed Khoshbin is a consultant in cardiac surgery, transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at The Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital as part of Guys and St Thomas NHS Trust. He is an honorary clinical senior lecturer at the national heart and lung institute, Imperial College, London.
He qualified from Aberdeen Medical School with an MB ChB and achieved a post graduate research doctorate (MD) from the University of Leicester. He began his training in cardiac surgery at St Marys Hospital in London as part of East Thames rotation. As a national trainee in cardiac surgery, he worked in Manchester University Hospitals. He achieved fellowship of The Surgical Royal Colleges of Great Britain and Ireland (FRCS CTh) and was appointed to the UK’s prestigious national peri CCT fellowship in transplantation (Freeman Hospital). As part of this fellowship, he was awarded a travelling scholarship (ISHLT Scholarship award) to USA at the University College Los Angeles (UCLA), California. He performs all major cardiac operations including heart and lung transplantation, short and long term mechanical cardiac and cardiorespiratory support.
He is the national lead for transplant education through the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain. He is an examiner for the European board of examiners and the Intercollegiate speciality examination. He is the cardiac training lead at Harefield Hospital and clinical lead for organ utilisation at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals as part of Guys and St Thomas’s NHS Trust.
His research interests include innovations in cardiac surgery / transplantation and ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). Laboratory research, clinical trials, research in education and artificial intelligence.
He has published extensively in peer review medical journals, including Cochran systematic reviews, book chapters, randomised trials, and meta-analysis of trials. He has published in journals such as the British Medical Journal, Circulation, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Annals of Cardiothoracic Surgery, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is an expert reviewer for the National Institute for Health and Care Research and several high impact factor journals.
He is an active member of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (SCTS), European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (EACTS), International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT).
