Diyar Saeed graduated in 2000 as a medical doctor. He finished his cardiac surgery training focused on heart failure surgery and Off-Pump surgery at Bad Oeynhausen Heart Center, Germany, Northwestern University, Chicago and Düsseldorf University, Germany. Further , during his residency, he spent 2 years as postdoctoral Research Fellow at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH. Since 2018, he is the Vice Chair and director of the MCS and heart transplantation program at Leipzig Heart Center and Professor of Surgery at the faculty of Medicine. His areas of interest are minimally invasive coronary and heart valve surgery, Off-Pump surgery, heart failure surgery, heart transplantation and complex redo cardiac procedures.
