I have published over 300 papers and book chapters with an h-index of 60. I have been a steering committee member of many randomized surgical trials: Big Lung Trial, MesoVATS, MARS and MARS2 and have co-authored many management guidelines on lung cancer (BTS, ESMO, ESTS), mesothelioma (ERS/ESTS) and pneumothorax (ERS). I have chaired the National Cancer Research Institute Mesothelioma group in UK and been IMIG Conference President in 2016. I have served as a Councillor of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, a founder member of the British Thoracic Oncology Group; on the Executive Committee of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain, the Specialist Advisory Committee for Training and I have worked with NHS England in the commissioning of mesothelioma services and lung volume reduction surgery. I performed the first minimally invasive lobectomy in England in 1993 and I now continue to innovate in robotic assisted thoracic surgery. For EACTS I am Director of the Thoracic Academy Fundamentals Course and will serve as Chair of the Emphysema Task Force.
