Dr. Baran graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine prior to training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital both in New York City. He is currently the Section Head for Heart Failure, Transplant and MCS at the Cleveland Clinic Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute in Weston, Florida where he also leads the cardiogenic shock team. He and colleagues developed the SCAI Shock classification for cardiogenic shock which has been rapidly adopted. He has a deep interest in advancing the science of cardiogenic shock care including the use of temporary mechanical circulatory support devices both as a bridge to transplantation and for bridge to recovery.
