Christoph Starck
Prof. Dr. Christoph Starck is a Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the German Heart Center of Charité in Berlin, Germany. He covers the complete cardiac surgical spectrum and has a special focus on arrhythmia and cardiac device surgery. Prof. Starck is renowned for his large clinical experience in transvenous lead extraction procedures, conducts several lead extraction workshops annually and is the founder of the International Lead Extraction Expert Meeting (ILEEM), which was established in 2012. Furthermore he has a clinical focus on treating CIED infections and he is one of the pioneers of percutaneous aspiration of lead vegetations using the Angiovac system concomitant to lead extraction procedures in patients with systemic CIED infections and large lead vegetations. He has served on the writing committee of the 2019 EHRA international consensus document on CIED infections.
His research activities in the field of lead extraction procedures focus on improving patient safety as well as extraction tools and techniques. Another research focus is improving the treatment of patients with CIED infections. He has further research projects focusing on the development of innovative technologies in assist device therapy, as well as the optimization of extracorporeal circulation technologies & techniques. His clinical and experimental activities have led to more than 400 lectures and over 150 publications.
He is Fellow of the European Heart Rhythm (FEHRA) and is a member of the following societies: European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), European Society of Cardiology (ESC), German Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (DGTHG).
