Ayse Cetinkaya
Dr Ayse Cetinkaya has been a senior consultant in cardiac surgery at the Campus Kerckhoff Clinic of Justus Liebig University in Giessen since 2018. Ayse completed her doctorate in 2002 at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. Ayse received her doctorate with the title “Doctoral thesis on: “Long-term results after directional coronary atherectomy”. Ayse has been a senior consultant in cardiac surgery since 2008.
Ayse’s scientific focus has been on treatment options for mitral and tricuspid valve disease for over 15 years and has several publications on this topic. Ayse is working towards her postdoctoral qualification at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany.

Ayse has been a member of the German Women’s Association (DFR) since 2022, of “Die Chirurginnen e. V.” since 2017, of the European Association for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) since 2012, of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS) since 2012, of the German Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (DGTHG) since 2007, of Médecins Sans Frontières since 2006 and of Altvilligster, selection of fellows since 1998. As a member of the WiCTS committee at the EACTS from October 2024, Ayse would like to expand her work.
she reviews for the European Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Expert Review of Medical Devices, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Quantitative Imaging in Medicine and Surgery and Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine.
She is also passionate about teaching and am involved in mentoring in several organisations: Lecturer at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, since 2015, Mentor in the association “Die Chirurginnen”, since 2023, Mentor in the DGTHG “Women train women”, since 2023, Representative of the association “Die Chirurginnen” in the German Women’s Council, since 2023, Member of the expert committee “Violence against women” of the Women’s Council, since 2023, Supervisor of the scientific work of nine students and PhD students, since 2015.
Ayse has a passion for heart surgery and wants to inspire the next generation of heart surgeons and play an active role in shaping the field.
