Andreas Zierer is director of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery of the Kepler University Hospital Linz, Chair of the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Hospital Wels and Professor for Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. He graduated in 2002 as a medical doctor at the Medical University of Vienna and began his residency at the Hospital of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main. Andreas completed his training as a specialist in cardiac surgery in 2010. Between 2005-2007 he received a 2 year DFG research fellowship oft he German Research Foundation. During that time he worked as a research fellow at the Washington University in St. Louis focusing on aortic surgery and right heart function in chronic pulmonary hypertension. For his research work Andreas received the Kiichi Sagawa Young Investigator Award and the Vivien Thomas Young Investigator Award in 2006. In 2007 he received the CHEST Young Investigator award. In 2014 he became Professor of cardiac surgery in Frankfurt . In 2016 he became chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the HELIOS clinic Siegburg. Since 2017 he works at his current position in Linz. His main focus is minimally invasive and interventional cardiac surgery as well as aortic surgery.
