Cecilia Pompili | Associate Professor and Thoracic Surgeon focusing on Patient Reported Outcomes Research; University of Hull
Cecilia is a qualified Academic Thoracic Surgeon with a PhD from the University of Leeds on The Role of Patients Reported Outcomes (PROMS) in Early-Stage NSCLC radical treatments. Dr Pompili has also obtained a Master in Robotic Thoracic Surgery in 2017 in Pisa, Italy under the supervision of Prof Melfi. She is currently Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Leeds. Her clinical research focuses on two areas: a) patient-centred and personalised care for thoracic malignancies and b) evidence-based practice in lung cancer surgery with particular interest in risk-stratification and postoperative morbidities. Dr Pompili has advocated for the inclusion of women and racial, sexual, and gender minorities in surgical oncology and clinical trials, and have led efforts within European surgical societies to support women and other underrepresented communities in entering the thoracic field (ESTS/EACTS gender bias project lead). She is co-chairing of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce leading a Global DEI assessment in the Thoracic Community.
Dr Manuel Carnero – Alcazar | Adult Cardiac Surgeon at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid, Spain.
Manuel’s expertise is in arrhythmia surgery, minimally invasive procedures and heart failure treatment. He is a Member of the scientific committee of the Spanish National Registry of Cardiovascular Surgery. Manuel has a Postdoctoral master’s degree in Research Methodology and Statistics and is a statistical reviewer for EJCTS and ICVTS as well as a Member of the editorial board of Revista Española de Cardiología. Manuel has a postdoctoral master’s degree in clinical management and is the Quality Manager of the Cardiac Surgery Department at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos. He also has a postdoctoral master’s degree in echocardiography.
Manuel is also a member of EACTS and the Spanish Society of Cardiology, is General Secretary of the Spanish Society of Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery, and Investigator for the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC).
