Following our joint publication of the highly anticipated Aortic Disease Guidelines, our hosts Can Gollmann-Tepeköylü and Miia L Lehtinen speak with Martin Czerny (University Clinic Freiburg, Germany) and Martin Grabenwöger (Clinic Floridsdorf, Vienna, Austria). This episode covers both the people involved in creating this influential document, as well as engaging detail regarding our current understanding of this fascinating organ.

Martin Czerny | Professor and Chairman – Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery, Department University Heart Center Freiburg Bad Krozingen, University Clinic Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany
Martin Czerny was born in Vienna, where he then undertook his surgical training under Professor Wolner in 1998. For 20 years he has focused on improving our understanding of aortic pathologies. He held the position of Attending Surgeon and Director of Clinical Research at the Inselspital Berne until 2013, and worked as a consultant at the University Clinic of Cardiovascular Surgery in Zurich from 2013-2015. He is currently a consultant cardiovascular surgeon at University Hospital Freiburg.
Martin Grabenwöger | Head of the Department of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, Floridsdorf Clinic, Vienna, Austria
Martin Grabenwöger attended the University of Vienna Medical School where he also undertook his research fellowship. From 1991-1996 he completed his training under Professor Wolner and Prim. Dr. H. Kassal, and since October 2004 he has held the position of Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Hospital Hietzing, Vienna. From 2014-2015, Martin Grabenwöger was also President of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery. In 2019 his department moved to a newly built hospital in Vienna and is now called Clinic Floridsdorf.
