Uday Trivedi
Uday Trivedi was appointed as a consultant in cardiac surgery in May 1999 and was part of the team that set-up the Sussex Cardiac Centre at The Royal Sussex County Hospital. He qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1986 and did his surgical training within London. His specialist cardiac training was done at St Mary’s, Brompton, St Thomas’s, Harefield, and King’s College Hospitals.
His clinical interests are diverse and has played a significant role in the introduction of new surgical techniques – Beating heart surgery, mitral valve repair, minimally invasive surgery, stentless and sutureless valves and percutaneous valve implantations (TAVI and TMVR).
He was the cardiac surgery lead for the department for 16 years and held positions in national organisations (President of the cardiothoracic section of the Royal Society of Medicine; Regional Speciality Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons; Unit representative and cardiac surgery audit lead – SCTS).
His current role is as the National Cardiothoracic Audit Lead for the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery. In this role he has steered the speciality to a new quality assurance programme and wider accountability.
