Ioannis Karampinis graduated in 2011 as a medical doctor at the University of Athens. In 2016 he completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Heidelberg and in 2018 he graduated as a general surgeon. After finishing his general surgery residency, Ioannis completed his thoracic surgical training focused on thoracic oncology at the University of Mannheim, the Royal Brompton Hospital and the University of Mainz. Currently, he is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at the University of Mainz and an Associate Professor for Surgery at the University of Heidelberg. His areas of interest are minimally invasive thoracic surgery, treatment of pulmonary metastases and mediastinal disease. His research focuses on reducing perioperative morbidity in thoracic surgery.
