Thereafter he and his family moved back to Germany to the Heart and Diabetes Centre in Bad Oeynhausen, where he became deputy director of the Paediatric Cardiac service and Director of the Cath lab. He stayed there for about 10 years, completed additional training in GUCH as well as emergency medicine. Additionally he gained plenty experience as trainer and international proctor in all sorts of interventional treatments such as routine ASD and PDA closure but also in percutaneous valve implantation, VSD closure, and other complex interventions.
From 2015 onwards he became full professor for paediatric cardiology and intensive care at the Ludwig Maximillian’s University in Munich. There he and his team care for general paediatric intensive care patients as well as transplant patients and of course the focus lies on paediatric and adult congenital heart disease. His areas of interest are interventional cardiology, intensive care management and training of junior doctors.
