Martin Strueber graduated in 1991 as a medical doctor at Hannover Medical School, Germany. He completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the same institution. In the years from 1998 – 2012 he served as a staff surgeon at the division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Hannover, as a Professor for Cardiothoracic transplantation, Director of the MCS program and later Vice chairman. From 2012 to 2014 he held the position as a Director for cardiothoracic transplantation and MCS at the Leipzig Heart Center, Germany. He served as a president for the European Society of heart and lung transplantation and as board member of the International Society of heart and lung transplantation. Thereafter he moved to the United States. Currently he is Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Transplantation at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
