Dr Bartlomiej Zych graduated from Silesian Medical University in 1996. From 1997-2008 he worked in the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Transplantation at Silesian Medical University, Silesian Centre for Heart Disease, Zabrze, Poland. He completed training in cardiac surgery in 2007 and became Specialist in Cardiac Surgery. He obtained doctorate in 2004 from his dissertation on ‘Comparison of different methods for avoiding blood transfusion in cardiac surgery’. Since 2008 he has been working in Department of Cardio-Thoracic Transplantation & Mechanical Circulatory Support at Harefield Hospital, London. His areas of special interest include extracorporeal donor organ perfusion, utilisation of organs from extended criteria donors and donor management.
