Andreas Hagendorff
Prof. Dr. Andreas Hagendorff was born in Düren – Germany in 1960. After University education in chemistry and medicine between 1979 and 1987, he was resident in physiology (1987-1989) at the University in Bonn – Germany – receiving his doctorate in 1988. Between 1989 and 1898 he was resident in internal medicine cardiology at the University hospital in Bonn – Germany and habilitated in 1998 (topic „Cardiac and cerebral blood flow autoregulation in hemodynamically stable ventricular tachycardias“). Since 1999, he is senior physician in the department of Cardiology at the University hospital in Leipzig- Germany. Since 2004, he is associate professor and head of the cardiac imaging laboratories at the University hospital in Leipzig – Germany. His main fields of activity are echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance tomography. Since 2004, Prof. Hagendorff had performed the scientific organization of annual echocardiography symposia, which have now become the German Congress of Echocardiography of the German Society of Cardiology. His scientific interests focus on cardiac imaging in ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, and heart valve diseases. In addition, a special clinical focus is the detection of myocardial involvement due to acute myocarditis in athletes by echocardiography.
Prof. Hagendorff is the author of the recent manuals on indication and performance of echocardiography – update 2020 of the German Cardiac Society as well as of specific echocardiographic applications (2021), author of the Expert Proposals of the working group 5 „cardiovascular ultrasound “ of the German Cardiac Society on echocardiographic diagnostics in patients with aortic valve stenosis(2020), with mitral valve regurgitation (2021) and with heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (2022). In addition, he is author of the German textbook: basic knowledge echocardiography – „Ars echocardiographica“ – step by step to the correct diagnosis.
