Christian Etz has been a surgeon at the University of Leipzig Heart Centre since 2010. He is also Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, a position he has held since 2008. He was in charge of Dr Griepp’s NIH funded Aortic Research Laboratory from 2005–2010, initially as his Postdoctoral Fellow and, since 2008, as the Lab’s Research Director. After his US-Licensing he worked with Dr Griepp as his Aortic Fellow. Amongst various international recognitions, the EACTS has twice awarded him with the Hans G. Borst Award for Thoracic Aortic Surgery for his work on Spinal Cord Protection. He is a Member of the German Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, the EACTS, the STS and the New York Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
